As requested by UN Member
States, this Online Platform for the Technology Facilitation Mechanism (TFM) –
2030 Connect, will “establish a comprehensive mapping of, and
serve as a gateway for, information on existing science,
technology and innovation initiatives, mechanisms and programmes,
within and beyond the United Nations,” “facilitate access to
information, knowledge and experience, as well as best practices
and lessons learned, on science, technology and innovation
facilitation initiatives and policies” and “facilitate the
dissemination of relevant open access scientific publications
generated worldwide”. 2030 Connect will function as an integral
part of the broader Technology Facilitation Mechanism (TFM).
Following a mandated
independent technical assessment, the UN
Department of Economic and Social Affairs’ Division for Sustainable
Development Goals (DESA/DSDG) and UN OICT collaborated to organize
a global design competition for 2030 Connect. Subsequently, a demo
version was presented at the HLPF 2018. Following extensive
stakeholder consultations, partnership building and resource
mobilization, the 2030 Connect is being
launched during the High-level Political Forum
on Sustainable Development, 2020 (
HLPF). It will be a new starting point for
feedback and support, discussing key challenges and opportunities
towards the full operationalization of the Platform in the next
phase.
Subject to the availability of resources, the 2030 Connect is in
the process of being expanded further, with complementary support
being visualized for developing countries to make the most of these
services.
