UN Call for
Technology Solutions for addressing the COVID-19 pandemic
The call looks for proven,
affordable and scalable technology solutions that can accelerate
progress towards providing basic health functions, especially for
vulnerable people.
In support to the UN Secretary-General’s initiative in assisting
Member States at the COVID-19 crisis, DESA/DSDG has reached out
to the UN Inter-agency Task Team on Science, Technology and
Innovation for the SDGs (IATT) to request the inputs to the UN
Call for Technology Solutions for addressing the COVID-19
pandemic and its immediate impacts. This effort is undertaken in
the context of the UN Technology Facilitation Mechanism (TFM), in
particular, experts active in its UN Interagency Task Team on
Science, Technology and Innovation for the SDGs; and its
10-Member Group for the TFM.
The
call looks for proven, affordable and scalable technology
solutions that can accelerate progress towards providing basic
health functions, especially for vulnerable people. Solutions
from diverse sources and communities from all parts of the world
are received. In response to the Call, more than 180 submissions
were received. It included several specific categories of
technology solutions, such as epidemic prediction model,
protective equipment, COVID-19 diagnostic technology, disease
analysis and drug design technology, public consultation and
governance support technology, medical equipment and technology
and other technologies. Selected solutions from each categories
and regions are now available on the 2030 Connect - the Online
Technology Sharing Platform.
